Ikujiro Nonaka, Professor Emeritus at Hitotsubashi University is the world-renowned 'guru' of Knowledge-based Management. He developed the Knowledge Creating Theory of management, and taught at Hitotsubashi ICS from its foundation in 2000 until 2010, and since 2011 has been the honorable guest speaker at the Knowledge Management course taught by Kazuo Ichijo.

In November 2013, Professor Nonaka received from Thinkers50 a Lifetime Achievement Award, which is an award given to those who have had a significant, long-term impact on the way people think about and practice management.

On October 16, 2014, Professor Nonaka began his lecture with an explanation of the seven philosophers who are at the foundation of the Knowledge Creating theory. He then described the SECI model, which presents the four steps of the knowledge-creating process, as well as the wise (phronetic) leadership that promotes the SECI process. Students in attendance were captivated by Professor Nonaka's interesting and witty speech, and asked many questions during the session.
