Guest Speakers in Term 2 'Competitiveness & Clusters'course

s-Guest Speaker Photo.jpg(1) On Monday, 26 January, Emi Osono's "Competitiveness & Clusters" course welcomed Dr. Murat Akpinar, Principal Lecturer at the School of Business and Services Management, JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Finland, as a guest speaker.

The session discussed how Finland's telecommunication cluster helped the country to develop into one of the world's leading economies.

Dr. Murat provided ICS students with an update on the telecommunication cluster in Finland following Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia's mobile phone device business, and discussed the cluster's resilience with the students.

(2) On Thursday, 12 February, Emi Osono's "Competitiveness & Clusters" course welcomed Mr. Koichi Iwamoto, Senior Analyst for Industrial Policy, Regional Economic and Industrial Policy Group, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), as a guest speaker.

The session discussed the history of Japan's industrial cluster policy and cases from different regions to identify factors contributed or not contributed to successful development of regional economy.

(3) On Monday, 16 February, Emi Osono's "Competitiveness & Clusters" course welcomed Mr. Shuichi Kamono, Executive Director, New Growth Strategy Promotion Office, Industry and Economics Bureau, City of Kitakyushu, as a guest speaker.

The session discussed the history of Kitakyushu City Government's industrial cluster policy and cases from different industries in the region to identify factors contributed or not contributed to successful development of regional economy.
