Digital Disruption (DIGI) | Guest Speaker - Mr. Shigeo Uda, Technical Advisor to IBM Japan
Digital Disruption - featuring a series of sessions with expert guest speakers from various industries and technology fields such as AI, big data, crowdfunding/crowdsourcing, digital fabrication and 3D printing - is one of the most distinctive courses in the Full-time MBA program at Hitotsubashi ICS.
On April 4, the Digital Disruption class welcomed Mr. Shigeo Uda, Technical Advisor to IBM Japan, as a guest speaker. In his overview, Mr. Uda defined blockchain as cutting-edge technology that enables "a shared ledger for recording the history of transactions that cannot be altered", and explained how it will revolutionize various industries.
He introduced current examples of blockchain use in business, such as the Hyperledger-based "Blockchain for business" and Bitcoin, and explained how Blockchain has been a game changer in the logistics of the global food trade by improving traceability and food safety. Mr. Uda answered question after question from the inquisitive and fully engaged MBA students throughout the session.
At the close, the students watched, with astonishment, "A Boy and His Atom", a film created by IBM nanophysicists that shows actual atoms but has been magnified 100 million times so it can be viewed on a screen. The film holds the Guinness World Record for the World's Smallest Stop-Motion Film.
Professor Osono and the entire DIGI class would like to thank Mr. Uda for sharing his valuable insights into how blockchain will completely transform business practices and even entire industries.
