Akitoshi Ito received his PhD in Finance from Ivey Business School at Western University in Canada in 1998, MBA from Keio University in 1990, and bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Tokyo in 1986.
He previously taught at University of Tsukuba, University of Regina, International University of Japan, and Tokyo Keizai University. He also taught in several finance executive programs and seminars tailored for large corporations and governmental institutions.
He has been active about research in various areas of finance. In one of his research papers, he examines corporate governance-performance issues extensively, with a focus on the ownership structure of Japanese companies. He has also investigated various biases observed in the equity portfolio holdings of institutional investors in the Japanese stock market. Furthermore, he has analyzed the very unique dynamics of international art and stock prices during the past 30 years. His major publications have appeared in the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal and Asia-Pacific Financial Markets.
