James Kondo was a Yale World Fellow at Yale University. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School, BA in Economics from Keio University (Japan), and was also a visiting student at Brown University.
Professor Kondo’s career spans technology, academia, business, government, think tanks, and social enterprises. In technology, he is Co-Chairman of Silicon Valley Japan Platform, and previously served as Vice President at Twitter Inc., and Chairman of Twitter Japan. In academia, he was on the faculty of the University of Tokyo, and later was Advisor at Laboratory for Social Machines, MIT Media Lab. In business, Professor Kondo is a Senior Advisor at Geodesic Capital in Silicon Valley. He was a consultant at McKinsey & Company for fifteen years where he served as a core member of the firm’s global strategy group and its economic think tank, McKinsey Global Institute. In government, Professor Kondo was a Special Advisor to the Cabinet Office, and prior to that, a political appointee to the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan where he served as Special Advisor to the Head of National Policy Unit, Assistant to the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, and Director of Global Communication Strategy.
Within the think tank community, Professor Kondo is President of the Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation. He was a Founding Vice-Chairman and President of the Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI), and was also an International Fellow at Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC. In the social sector, Professor Kondo co-founded TABLE FOR TWO, Beyond Tomorrow, and SocialEmergence.org. He is also on the board of trustees at The International House of Japan and Christel Vie Ensemble Foundation.
For his achievements, Professor Kondo has been recognized as Young Global Leader, New Asian Leader, and member of Global Agenda Council at the World Economic Forum (Davos); Asia21 Fellow and Associate Fellow at Asia Society; and Inamori Fellow at Inamori Foundation; and Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy.
