Knowledge Week 2013-2014 Distinguished Alumni Panel

All students and alumni are cordially invited to join 2014 Alumni Panel Discussion that will be held on March 29 from 10:15. This year's panelists are:


Hirotaka Kawata is Managing Director of Accenture, in charge of Communications, Media and Technology clients in the Tokyo office. He joined the firm in 1993, then took 2-years leave of absence for ICS between 2000 and 2002 as a founding class. After graduating ICS, he returned to Accenture and continued serving for telecom carriers and technology companies. He led number of projects around strategy development, process improvement, system integration, and outsourcing in APAC countries. He enjoys playing violin with colleagues as a member of Accenture Chamber Music Club.

Akira Oishi is the Head of Asset Management, Asia Pacific in GE Capital Real Estate based in Tokyo. He became the Head of Asset Management, Japan in 2010 and is now leading the Asset Management team in Asia Pacific as Managing Director to manage $6 billion portfolio. He joined GE Real Estate Japan in March 2004. He was responsible for originating M&A deals as well as debt deals. He had led the Structured Finance team for three years since 2007 and developed debt business in Japan. Before joining GE, he worked for Mitsui Trust and Banking Corp for 13 years. He was responsible for derivatives trading such as interest rate and foreign exchange in Tokyo and from 1994 to 1998 in New York. After coming back to Japan, he took a role in the Structured Finance department to plan and arrange J-REIT and private fund for many clients in Real Estate industry. In 2002, he resigned from the company to attend Hitotsubashi University in Japan where he earned his MBA in 2004.

Arrel is currently holding the position of Footwear Business Director in Converse Greater China, managing the overall footwear business and teams located in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei. Before assuming the Converse position, Arrel experienced several internal transfers at multiple locations within Nike Inc. She interned in Nike Japan during her ICS days, and after earning MBA, moved to Shanghai for the first time for Nike China as the Senior Footwear Manager leading the Olympics project heading toward 2008 Beijing Olympics. She had a once-in-a-lifetime experience working with world class athletes and attending most of the Olympics sport events as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. She was transferred back to Nike Taiwan after the Olympics and moved to Shanghai again as Senior Merchandising Manager for the Athletics Training category in Nike Greater China. Before ICS, Arrel was the Footwear Product Line Manager at Nike Taiwan, she is an all-time Niker and footwear veteran in sports industry. Arrel travels across the globe for work and lives the life of the movie "Up in the Air"!

Brian Lee Ching Yee, aged 39, is the CEO of Branded Lifestyle Holdings Limited, a HK-based company that manages international apparel brands like Hang Ten, Roots, and operates an Asia-wide network of over 1,000 retail shops. Brian graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree at the Sloan School of Management. He also holds an MBA degree from Hitotsubashi University in Japan. Prior to joining Branded Lifestyle, Brian was the President and CEO of Kanematsu Textile Corporation, one of the major apparel trading companies in Japan, and KT Licensing Ltd., which holds the master license of Sanrio characters in China. Brian has over 16 years of experience in cross-border M&A, business integrations, turnarounds, and various aspects of supply chain management and brand licensing. He was also responsible for various capital raising, IPO, merger, and divestment activities for the telecom company Asia Global Crossing, and various US companies during his time at Merrill Lynch in New York.

Well-groomed and well-mannered Bin graduated from ICS in 2007. He thinks the two years he spent at ICS is one of his fondest memories. As ex-naval officer and history buff, Bin proposed and supervised translation of Nonaka-sensei's 'Essence of Failure' in Korean. Currently, he is serving as organizer of ICS Seoul Chapter. Bin triple majored in Anthropology, Japanese and Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. He is Strategic Planning Manager for T Map, the world's most accurate smartphone-based traffic and navigation app, at SK Planet. Bin is living in Seoul with his loving wife Seungmin and a faithful dog named Lee Pun.

Cindy is the Group CEO of MCC Group, responsible for the strategic business development and corporate management of the whole group consisting of the main company Myanmar Computer Co., Ltd which offers Provision of Education Services and Provision of ICT Services. Cindy was instrumental in launching of the first private institute in Myanmar named MCC Training Institute after coming back from ICS. Cindy leads over 700 employees at the Head Office and a countrywide franchise network of over 170 centers. In addition, Cindy is also active in ICT Development and Women Development in Myanmar and takes leading positions in Myanmar Computer Federation, Myanmar Computer Industry Association, Myanmar Women Federation and Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Association amongst other initiatives.
