Guest Speaker: Kei Suzuki, Executive Officer, Muji
On May 13, Professor Yoshi Fujikawa's Service Management class welcomed Kei Suzuki, director & executive officer of Ryohin Keikaku Ltd, otherwise known as Muji, as a guest speaker. Mr Suzuki, who was president of Ryohin Keikaku Europe at the time of the Hitotsubashi ICS case 'MUJI: the challenge of a global brand originating in Japan (A) & (B)', shared with us his own views on MUJI's past and future globalisation strategy.
Ryohin Keikaku is a Japanese retail company which sells a wide variety of household and consumer goods. Muji is distinguished by its design minimalism, emphasis on recycling, avoidance of waste in production and packaging, and no-logo or 'no-brand' policy. The name Muji is derived from the first part of Mujirushi Ryōhin, translated as 'No Brand Quality Goods' on Muji's European website.
