ICS Alumni Day 2023
Time to Connect and Reconnect
After conducting the event online for two years, ICS Alumni Day 2023 made a triumphant return to the magnificent halls of Hitotsubashi. This highly anticipated annual gathering brought together a total of 211 alumni, with 156 attending in person and 55 participating remotely.
The occasion provided a fantastic opportunity to connect and reconnect with classmates, underclassmen, upperclassmen, as well as current and former professors, fostering both old friendships and new connections.
Yuki Ueno (EMBA Class of 2020) and Yoshi Fujikawa (Faculty in Charge of External Affairs) kicked off the event. The audience also enjoyed celebratory moments dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Class of 2003 and the 10th anniversary of the Class of 2013.
Dean Emi Osono shared updates on the recent developments and future plans of Hitotsubashi ICS. Following that, Lavi Penaverde, the current president of ICS Alumni Association (ICSAA) and MBA Class of 2001, presented the latest activities and events organized by the ICSAA.
Highlighting Hitotsubashi ICS's role as a leading business school bridging Japan with Asia and the world, the community had the opportunity to watch "The Purpose of Capitalism: Lessons from Japan," a collaborative production featuring Professor Emeritus Ikujiro Nonaka.
Subsequently, a panel discussion took place, featuring Daisuke Kan (President of Cheerio Corporation) and Jody Ono (Specially Appointed Professor). The discussion focused on the evolving landscape of stakeholder engagement, leadership practices driving societal changes, innovation, and sustainability. An engaging and intellectually stimulating conversation followed among current students, alumni, and professors in a Kurumaza-style group discussion, focusing on the steps that can be taken to enhance stakeholder engagement
Afterward, the social aspect of the event commenced, providing an hour of networking and relaxed mingling accompanied by hors d'oeuvres.
The event drew to a close with a Japanese tradition (and ICS tradition) of sanbon-jime, marking the successful conclusion of the festivities.
