Patrick Reinmoeller focuses on helping leaders to generate value through knowledge creation under uncertainty. Prior to leading the Ikujiro Nonaka Knowledge Creation Endowed Laboratory at Hitotsubashi ICS as Specially Appointed Professor and Endowed Chair, he joined LUISS University of Rome as Angelini Industries Chair in Strategic Innovation and was professor at IMD (International Institute of Management Development) in Lausanne, Switzerland since 2019. Before IMD, he was as Professor of Strategy at Cranfield University, United Kingdom, and Associate Professor at Erasmus University’s Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) in the Netherlands. He began his academic career at Hitotsubashi University and as Assistant Professor in Knowledge Science at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, after studying at University of Cologne, Bocconi University and Hitotsubashi University. He received his Ph.D. in Business Administration at the Faculty for Economics and Social Sciences, University of Cologne, Germany.

Patrick conducts research on corporate strategy, organization theory and innovation. His work examines how orchestration capabilities enable transformations of multinational companies. He publishes in leading journals including the Academy of Management Journal, British Journal of Management, Organization Studies and Strategic Organization. His managerial articles appeared in California Management Review, Harvard Business Review, Hitotsubashi Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review - online and offline. Reinmoeller has published five books, including Mapping a Winning Strategy (2018, Emerald), and Strategic Management: Competitiveness and Globalization (2011, Cengage). His recent research focused on how companies adapt in face of crises and uncertainty.

He serves and has served on editorial boards of Academy of Management Discoveries, Journal of Management and Governance and European Management Journal and is an active reviewer for leading academic and managerial journals. He has won numerous awards for his papers and reviews.

In recent years, Patrick designed and delivered customized executive education for multinationals including Japan's Denso and Tokio Marine Group, Indonesia’s Bank Mandiri, Turkiye’s Coca-Cola İçecek, and Europe’s Angelini Industries, DNB, Deutsche Telekom, ING, Norlys, SAP and UK's BAE Systems and IMI. This award-winning work addresses client needs with innovative approaches suited for executives and top management teams. He has written numerous case studies on Boeing, CCI, Geely, GoJek, Grammarly, NTT and Turkcell.
